Cambodia Independence Day 柬埔寨獨立紀念日

今天11月9日是柬埔寨獨立62週年，政府每年都會於首都金邊隆重慶祝獨立節，紀念國家獲得獨立，同時悼念在爭取國家獨立主權時為國捐驅的英勇戰士亡靈。

美國總統奧巴馬早於數天前向柬埔寨西哈莫尼國王陛下致電表示祝賀。奧巴馬還在賀電中提及今年3月份其夫人米歇爾到訪柬埔寨，充分體現美柬兩國的友好合作關係。

1953年11月9日，在西哈努克國父的領導下，柬埔寨人民從法國殖民者手中奪回了國家主權，結束了近一百年的殖民統治，這一天正式成為柬埔寨的獨立日。柬埔寨目前和平、穩定、團結，正逐步消除貧困，呈現欣欣向榮的景象。

Today, Cambodia celebrates its 62nd anniversary of the declaration of the Independence from France back in 1953. Cambodians celebrate it with festivals, parades and firework displays especially near the Riverbanks of the Royal Palace.

U.S. President H.E. Barack Obama has recently sent a congratulatory message to His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia. Moreover, he highlighted that Michelle’s visit to Cambodia this year underscored the deep friendship between the people of the United States and Cambodia.

Under the leadership of Norodom Sihanouk, the Cambodians regained national sovereignty on 9 November 1953, ending nearly a century of colonial rule by France. This day then became the Independence Day of Cambodia.

Celebrations are mainly held in the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh.
